Michael began his teaching career with Dun Laoghaire VEC in 2001, where he taught a variety of computing-related subjects at the PLC level, including Databases, Java Programming, Web Design, JavaScript, and Visual Basic. In 2011, he took up the role of Principal at Westport College of Further Education. In April 2021, Michael became the Principal of Mayo College of Further Education and Training.
Currently, Michael serves as the President of the Principals and Deputy Principals Association (PDA) and has been an active member of the national executive for several years. He is also the Chairperson of Further Education and Training Colleges Ireland, a sub-committee of the National Association of Principals and Deputy Principals. In July 2024, Michael was appointed to the Board of Solas by Minister Patrick O’Donnovan.
Michael recently completed Mentor training provided by the newly established Centre for School Leadership.
Personal Interests
Outside of his professional role, Michael is passionate about GAA at both club and county levels and serves as the Secretary of his local GAA Club. He is also an avid traveler, having visited over 70 countries.
