Michael began his teaching career with Dun Laoghaire VEC in 2001. There he taught a variety of computing related subjects at PLC level Subjects includes Databases, Java Programming, Web Design, JavaScript and Visual Basic. In 2011 Michael took up the role of Principal of Westport College of Further Education. In April 2021 Michael took up the role of Principal of Mayo College of Further Education and Training.
Michael is involved with the administration of the Erasmus + projects in the college and has established contacts with a number of European Partners in countries such as France, Estonia, Poland, Germany, Romania and Iceland.
Michael is currently President of the Principals and Deputy Principals Association (PDA) and served on the national executive for several years. Michael is also a Chairperson of Further Education and Training Colleges Ireland a sub-committee of the National Association of Principals and Deputy Principals.
Michael recently completed Mentor training provided by the newly established Centre for School Leadership.
Outside of his role of Principal Michael follows GAA at both club and county level and is Secretary of his local GAA Club. Michael is an avid traveller and has visited over 60 countries.
