This one-year QQI Level 5 award provides a foundation in science subject areas and mathematics before entry to university.

Course Duration

This is a full-time one-year course which runs from September to May.

Entry Requirements

A Leaving Certificate, Leaving Certificate Applied or equivalent is required, although exceptions are given to mature students who are over 23 years of age. Entry is subject to interview.

Biology 5N2746

This module aims to equip the student with the knowledge, skill and competence to independently apply concepts and principles of biology in a laboratory and in the field in a managed environment.

Anatomy and Physiology 5N0749

Students will gain an understanding of the structure and function of the human body and the interrelationship between its systems.

Chemistry 5N2747

Students completing this module will gain an appreciation for the structures of and changes in matter. This module is designed to develop understanding of the industrial and everyday applications of chemistry.

Physics 5N1460

This module gives provides students with the knowledge, skill and competence to apply the principles of physics to everyday experiences and industrial processes

Mathematics 5N1833

This award will equip students with the relevant knowledge, skill and competence to apply a broad range of mathematical skills and tools to a wide variety of contexts, with some theoretical understanding.

Laboratory Skills 5N2751

Students will be provided with the knowledge, skill and competence to operate safely under supervision in a laboratory environment.

Communications

Students are guided through a series of assignments to improve a range of essential verbal and written communication skills.

Work Experience 5N1356

The work experience module includes a series of written assignment which aim to prepare students for their 60 hour work placement and their future progression to higher education or employment.
