Award

Successful completion of this course will result in a QQI Level 5 Certificate in General Studies 5M3114

Course Duration

This is a one year, full time course running from September to May.

Entry Requirements

A Leaving Certificate or equivalent is required, although exceptions are given to mature students who are over 23 years of age. Acceptance to the course is also based on an interview which takes place a few weeks after applications have been submitted.

Course Content

  • Research and Study Skills
    Build a strong academic foundation with effective research techniques and study strategies. This module enhances critical thinking, time management, and organizational skills to support success throughout the course and beyond.
  • Communications
    Develop excellent verbal and written communication skills for professional settings. This module emphasizes interpersonal communication, customer relations, and the ability to present information clearly and persuasively.
  • Work Experience
    Gain valuable real-world experience through industry placement. This practical component enables students to apply their learning in a professional setting, build industry connections, and enhance their employability. (All students will complete 60 hours in a work experience placement as part of their studies on this course).
  • The Internet
    Explore the internet’s role in modern business operations, particularly in tourism and events and gain an understanding of web development basics. Learn how to leverage online platforms for research, communication, and promotional activities.
  • Digital Marketing
    Understand the fundamentals of digital marketing and its application to the tourism and event planning industries. Topics include social media marketing, search engine optimization (SEO), and online campaign management.
  • Word Processing
    Master word processing software and document creation skills. This module ensures students can produce professional-quality reports, itineraries, and event materials.
  • Tourism Information & Administration
    Study the essentials of the tourism industry, including customer service, destination knowledge, and administrative tasks. This module equips students to handle inquiries, plan itineraries, and support tourism operations effectively.
  • Event Production
    Learn the principles and practicalities of planning and executing events. From conceptualization to logistics and post-event evaluation, this module provides a hands-on approach to organising successful events.
